Marine Protected Area in Indonesia


In October 2018, Indonesia’s President pledged to expand a proposed of 30 million hectares of marine protected areas a reality and 20 million hectares of it becomes effectively managed by 2030. The proposed protected areas will be then classified into several groups/levels such as National Marine Park, National Nature Reserve, and sanctuary. However, the big question is how to manage those protected areas to become effectively manage and benefitting nature as well as people?
